Seminar Announcement – Fitness Training Myths

So we’ve set the date for our next educational seminar. And it’s happening on Wednesday February 29 at 7 pm. And this all happens at our facility on Sutherland Avenue.

What happens at one of these seminars? Well basically it’s a chance for all of us to get together outside of training and learn a little more about what we’re trying to do. And a chance to meet all of the other people that work hard just like you and achieve great results.

It’s fun to be able to come in, grab a beverage and some snacks, sit back and be able to relax inside the facility. Because if there’s one thing we never like to see when training is going on is for people to sit idle doing nothing.

So this is the chance to do just that. Sit back. Relax. Eat some fun food. And of course learn new things that will take your training to the next level.

What are some of the topics for this presentation?

Well, you will learn about:

Does muscle weigh more than fat?

Will resistance training make women bulky?

What about vibration training? What are the benefits? Is it something you should be doing?

And with stretching when should we do it? For how long? And does it matter what type?

Is cardio good for weight loss?

If you’ve been before you know the presentation style is very casual. There’s no need to hold questions until the end. And I’m trying to arrange to video the presentation to give you a copy later. So take notes if you like but we’ll probably be able to provide you with the actual presentation later as well.

And there may have been mention of door prizes. We’re already assembling some fun gifts to give away. So besides being fed you may be one of the lucky few who go home with a prize.

But besides snacks and prizes this seminar is important for a few reasons.

Reason #1 – You Move Out of Level 1

Just in case you were wondering, level 1 is not a good thing. Basically this is the level where you don’t know what you don’t know. You keep repeating certain mistakes because you just don’t know any better.

You may train a certain way because you believe it to be the most effective possible. You’re not trying to cut corners or cheat yourself. It’s simply the only info you have to go with. Which is unfortunate when you see honest efforts misapplied.

Reason #2 – Encourage Safer Training

The first rule of training is that it must be safe. What good is it to lose 30 lbs if you hurt your back, can’t move as a result and put all the weight back on during your recovery?

For example, many people hear that a low back should be addressed with an emphasis on core training. These same people will then proceed to perform crunches of every type in order to stabilize their low back.

We wouldn’t use this approach and want to make sure you understand why and what a better approach would be.

Reason #3 – Seek the MED

Our approach to training is to seek out the minimal essential dose. We review the literature and test out new trends on ourselves (mean our staff) first to find a better way.

Putting on seminars such as this allows us to be constantly reading journal articles to have better solutions at the ready for you. As much as it may appear that our approach to training may be influenced by certain factors it really comes down to evidenced-based solutions.

We definitely enjoy putting these seminars on for our clients and are looking forward to the 29th.
